The five-minute briefing

  1. Results — yesterday against target: sales, queue time, stock gaps.
  2. Priorities — the two or three things that matter today (delivery, promotion change, audit).
  3. Zones — who covers which zone and till, and break times.
  4. Standard of the day — one behaviour to focus on, for example greeting within 60 seconds.
  5. Questions — confirm everyone knows their first task.

Deploying the team

  • Cover tills and service first, tasks second.
  • Match experienced crew with new joiners in the first weeks.
  • Walk the floor every hour: queue, gaps, safety, service.

Monitoring performance

Use facts you can observe: queue length, facings filled, till variance, complaint log. Address gaps on the same shift.
